Keynote speakers

Dr. Erika La Plante

Prof. Erika La Plante is an Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California, Davis. She previously held positions at the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of California, Los Angeles. She has a B.S. in Geology and a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prof. La Plante has produced multiple peer-reviewed publications on mineral reactivity and processing, cementitious materials, and carbon dioxide sequestration, and applies her expertise in the kinetics of low-temperature aqueous processes at mineral-fluid interfaces to address the many research questions in the fields of climate, sustainability, built environment, and energy.

Dr. Mingwei Zhang

Mingwei Zhang is an assistant professor at the University of California, Davis. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Davis in 2021 and his Bachelor's degree at Shanghai Jiao Tong Univerity in 2017. He conducted postdoctoral research at the National Center for Electron Microscopy, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 2021 to 2023. His primary research interests focus on the mechanical properties, deformation mechanisms, and the effects of advanced processing of multi-principal element alloys and additively manufactured alloys under extreme conditions using bulk and in-situ mechanical testing and advanced characterization.
